Tutorial 1 — Chess Pieces
ThemeChess Pieces
Word Salad is a themed word puzzle built around sixteen letter tiles. Look for words that match the displayed clue and can be traced through neighboring cells. The theme helps distinguish intended answers from other letter combinations.
Each board has four rows and four columns. Recorded words can follow neighboring tiles horizontally, vertically or diagonally. Check both the letter path and the theme before deciding that a word belongs to the puzzle.
Before searching the grid, think of several words that fit the displayed category. This narrows the possibilities and gives you recognizable letter patterns to look for.
Start with unusual letters or combinations. They often make a candidate answer easier to recognize than scanning every tile in order.
Check horizontal, vertical and diagonal neighbors. Do not assume that an answer must form a straight line across one row.
A word may be traceable without belonging to the displayed theme. Use the category and recorded answer set to verify that you are solving the right puzzle.
If you need an archived solution, compare all sixteen letters. A single common answer does not uniquely identify a puzzle.
The source archive contains two tutorial boards. Use them to see how themes and recorded answer sets relate to a 4×4 grid.

No. The intended answers must fit the displayed theme, not merely form a possible word.
Search a remembered theme, answer word or distinctive grid letters in the Puzzle Finder, then compare the complete board.
